Fairtrade Label South Africa (FLSA) has no doubt about it: for an empowerment label such as Fairtrade it is a must to be at the Soweto Wine Festival, one of the emerging trendiest events in the country. The Fairtrade area at the show will allow Sowetans to learn about Fairtrade and, of course, to taste the exhibited Fairtrade wines - Fairhills, Stellar Organics and Thandi.
What is more, media and consumers will be able to meet representatives from the farms, who will share their experiences and answer all the questions around the benefits of Fairtrade on the ground. The self-styled 'ghetto glamorous' Soweto Wine Festival has expanded its venue and duration in order to host the booming number of participants. 6500 people are expected to show up in this 3 days long event, where more than 800 wine brands will be showcased. The festival's theme for 2010 is Careers in Wine, which perfectly matches with Fairtrade's core mission: to empower disadvantaged small farmers and farm workers so that they can combat poverty and take more control over their lives.

Founded and sponsored by the Cape Wine Academy, the Soweto Wine Festival is a wine and lifestyle extravaganza that aims at providing Sowetans with opportunities to gain knowledge of wines and wine tasting within their own environment.
