WORLD'S FIRST FAIRTRADE HOTEL FLOOR!
11.10.2010 - Jos Nijhuis, President of the Board and CEO of the Schiphol Group (Amsterdam Airport), opened the world's first Green & Fairtrade hotel floor today. He did this together with Peter d'Angremond, Director of Stichting Max Havelaar (the dutch Fairtrade organisation), and Kees Teer, General Manager of Dorint Hotel Amsterdam Airport. This forms part of the sustainable policy aimed at developing Dorint Hotel Amsterdam Airport into the most sustainable hotel in the Netherlands.
From now on, the guests on the Green & Fairtrade floor can sleep in handmade, 100% sustainable Dorint Lavital beds. The beds are a dutch product. The cotton used in the production of the beds is Fairtrade certified. This also applies to the cotton in the continental quilts, towels, bathrobes, bath mats and pillow. The flowers, fruit, food and drinks in the minibar as well as the hand lotion in the bathroom also have Fairtrade certification. The Green & Fairtrade floor clearly demonstrates that daily activities such as sleeping, eating and drinking can be excellently combined with combating poverty and supporting sustainable development.
