DEETLEFS CELEBRATES TOP VALUE TRIO
05.09.2012 - Centuries of experience in winemaking is recognised with three of Deetlefs Estate wines listed in The Best Value Wine Guide for 2013. Established in 1822 by Nicolaas Deetlefs - Deetlefs Estate is the second oldest wine estate under ownership of the same family in South Africa - the estate has a reputation for producing wines of exceptional quality and value. Owner Kobus Deetlefs expressed his delight at the Best Value Wine Guide results by stating: “An in-depth knowledge of our unique terroir over many generations gives us an edge in terms of quality and consistency.”
The guide, which lists the best South African wines and is compiled by a panel which includes Cape Wine Masters and leading wine retailers, has the following to say about the three wines listed in the Best Value Guide:
Stonecross Pinotage 2011 – priced at R47 “A light, appealing nose filled with plum and cherry fruit. The same can be found on the palate with a light earthy cocoa grip adding complexity. Nicely rounded wine with good mouth feel and length.”
Stonecross Chenin Blanc Chardonnay 2012 – priced at R42 “It’s like spring in an apple orchard – full of heady blossom aromas. In the mouth the apple blossom is joined by some tangy apricot and lemon zest flavour. There’s a creamy leesy note too. Long finish.”
Deetlefs Winery Pinotage 2010 – priced at R65 (pictured on the right) “Reminiscent of a newly ploughed field in its earthy cocoa nuances on the nose. The palate is creamy with mulberries, cherries and plum and then that rich, deep chocolate note. Very tasty and well made with a satisfyingly long tail.” the Deetlefs Pinotage 2010 received a gold medal and a rating of 95 points at the prestigious Old Mutual Wine Trophy Show 2012 – rated one of top six red wines in South Africa.
Deetlefs is Fairtrade certified and established a joint venture with farm workers to create an independent company in which a Workers Trust has 50% shareholding in its Rhythms of Nature label.
