This FAIRTRADE COFFEE WEEK calls all shoppers to WAKE UP to a new coffee experience this July – one that will not only tantalise your taste buds but will also create better deals for small-scale coffee producers. FAIRTRADE COFFEE WEEK opens South Africa’s eyes to the amazing journey that coffee takes from bean to cup, touching many countries and thousands of lives. It also promotes the growing availability of Fairtrade coffee in South Africa and the growing demand from local consumers and businesses for high quality, fairly traded coffee.

Bean There coffee shops in Cape Town and Joburg kick off Fairtrade Coffee Week with an act of generosity:

The Suspended Coffee Initiative allows anyone to pay for a coffee, which can later be enjoyed by a stranger or a friend. If you wish to share in an act of coffee-kindness during Fairtrade Coffee Week, buy a Suspended Coffee for a crush, a colleague, a friend…or just a stranger!

To participate, visit Bean There coffee shops at 44 Stanley Avenue in Joburg, and 58 Wale Street in Cape Town.

 Wednesday 22 July

Black Gold Screening at Stellenbosch University
Together with Stellenbosch University’s film society, we are screening Black Gold, an eye-opening expose of many of the injustices experienced by small-scale coffee farmers.


The screening is free of charge and will be hosted in the cinema at the Neelsie Student Centre at 18h00, after which the floor will be opened to discussions.

Fairtrade Business Brunch & launch of Fairtrade coffee with the Protea Hotel Group
Our Fairtrade Business Brunch with the theme “The Business Case for Sustainability” takes place at the Protea Hotel Fire & Ice! in Melrose Arch (Johannesburg) and serves as a platform for the launch of Fairtrade coffee in Protea Hotels.

The event is organised in collaboration with the Protea Hotel Group, CIRO Beverage Solutions, the Gordon Institute of Business Sciences (GIBS), and Ogilvy Earth.
